Unlock Your True Potential: Step Our of Your Comfort Zone
Have you ever been afraid or anxious before trying a new or challenging activity? Has that fear ever stopped you from taking action? Every person has a different fear threshold and comfort zone, a zone of behavior that is familiar to us, where we feel comfortable and safe. The activities and situations that lie inside your comfort zone are routine and part of everyday life. Experiences or challenges outside your comfort zone often make one afraid and nervous.
Common fears include public speaking, rejection, new projects, and failure. When confronted with anxiety-producing events, many will retreat to avoid the fear and anxiety which stands in the way of personal growth. This causes lowered self-esteem; feelings of powerless, frustration and unhappiness; and sabotaging success. Most people don’t take the opportunity to tap into their own unique abilities, strengths, gifts, wisdom, skills, beliefs, and intuition to make progress towards change because it requires stepping out of your comfort zone. Please share these helpful tips with your employees:
· Develop a “can-do” attitude – Start telling yourself you can, and eventually you will believe it!
· Don’t be overly concerned with the result - Most people get hung up about how well they’re going to perform and what others will think. It’s the action that counts most.
· Know you’re an immediate winner – Just by taking the step to do the thing you fear & participating regardless of the result makes you successful.
· See clearly what you have to offer & commit your thoughts topaper - What are your ideas? What are you really good at? What do you want to change? What’s important to you?
· Ask yourself what you are afraid of - Look at your list of fears, decide if they are life threatening, and ask what would happen if your worst fears came true?
· Make a list of the benefits – Are the rewards and payoffs for stepping out of your comfort zone enough to turn your fear into excitement? Most often they are.
· Allow yourself to get really excited - Your excitement and inspiration is infectious to people around you and often draws the right people and opportunities to you.
· Commit to action - Pick one small goal at a time and go for it! Ask for help when you need it.
There’s nothing wrong with having some fears, but successful people take action and move forward despite being afraid. It’s not always easy but you’ll always feel better about yourself when you face your fears. The courage muscle can be developed just like any other muscle – with exercise! There’s another bonus: when you’re willing to expand your comfort zone, you’ll develop confidence in other areas as well.
